Welcome to Superior District Library

On May 8th, the DeTour community came out and overwhelmingly voted in support of keeping their library for both the school and the public.  With decreasing funds in the school’s coffers, they were facing the closing of an important resource for both students and residents.  But with the hard work of the Friends of the Library volunteers, the school board members and administration, and the Superior District Library board and Director, members of the DeTour and surrounding area have secured the future of their library for at least another seven years.  The DeTour Public Library will now be a member of the Superior District Library as a contract library.  With the addition of DeTour, the District now has nine members ranging across an approximately 2,100 square mile area in Chippewa, Mackinac, and Luce counties.  Residents in the new area will be able to use their cards at any of the other member libraries, as well as Lake Superior State University, in addition to all of the other services provided by the Superior District Library.  The eight other District libraries are located in Drummond Island, Cedarville, Pickford, Rudyard, Sault Ste. Marie, Moran, Engadine, and Curtis.  New library manager, Megan Stefanski, already has many new plans and ideas for the library, so be sure and stop by often to see what changes she has made, starting with new library hours.  The DeTour Public Library will once again be open Mondays through Saturdays, with evening hours until 8pm on Wednesdays.  A welcome reception will be held for Megan, and the DeTour Public Library, on Wednesday, July 11th from 6pm – 8pm at the library.  Please join us in welcoming both Megan and the DeTour Public Library to the Superior District Library.
